Walkers and bikers celebrated the opening of a missing link on the Interurban Trail in Lynnwood today.
The new separated trail section runs from South Lynnwood Park to 212th Street SW near 63rd Avenue W. The project received $1.3 million in PSRC funding.
The Interurban Trail travels through Lynnwood with nearly 4 miles of paved surface for walking, jogging, and biking. The south Lynnwood trail project is the last missing link on Lynnwood's portion of the trail.
The Interurban Trail generally follows the route used by the Interurban Trolley from 1910 to 1930 between Everett and Seattle. In total, the trail is about 24 miles long.
Lynnwood recently completed a draft 20-year master plan for the Interurban Trail, which outlines improvements such as landscaping, parking, and amenities that will improve the overall aesthetics, safety, and comfort of the trail to encourage greater use by people in the community.
