The four-county central Puget Sound region gained 67,860 people over the last year as the region’s total population reached 4.135 million.
The pace of population growth slowed compared to the previous two years when the region added more than 80,000 people annually, but still represents a robust rate of growth.
Nearly 300,000 people have been added to the region in the past four years.
Since 2010, the region has gained 443,718 new residents.
Housing unit production is continuing to increase regionally, and is now nearly as strong as the pre-recession production peak.
In 2018, there were 2.8 new people for every new housing unit added.
The region continues to be a magnet for newcomers. Migration (people moving into the region) has outpaced natural population change for the past five years.
Since 2010, nearly 60 percent of the population growth has been due to people moving into the region from other parts of the country and world.
