The storytelling tool provides an overview of structural racism in the central Puget Sound region, from the colonization of the Puget Sound region by white settlers to the great migration, housing discrimination, Japanese internment, civil rights movement, and the continued systems in the region that promote inequities. The accurate understanding of structural racism is important for shaping current and future strategies to address the consequences of past harm.

This report was developed in partnership with the Equity Advisory Committee and is part of the Regional Equity Strategy, which provides targeted strategies to address racial disparities and the needs of marginalized groups in regional planning work and in local jurisdictions across the four counties.
