Strong housing growth in the region

Between 2018 and 2019, the region added 27,500 more housing units. This annual increase surpasses the region’s previous high prior to the recession.

The data shows that about one new unit of housing has come online for every 2.5 people added to the region in the last year. The average household size is about 2.5 people.

Forecasts looking ahead to 2050 show that household size will decrease, to an average of about 2.35 people per household. That means that the number of housing units per person will need to increase as the region plans for growth.
