SNOHOMISH COUNTY – Local Initiative Support Corporation – Puget Sound (LISC) has won a VISION 2050 Award from the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) for their work on the Casino Road Economic Agenda. LISC Puget Sound partnered with Casino Road Connects and Village on Casino Road, with funding from Kaiser Permanente.
The VISION 2050 Awards celebrate progress to enhance the region’s communities and natural environment while advancing equity and opportunity for all. The awards recognize innovative work in the region to create a better future for the central Puget Sound.
LISC Puget Sound is committed to supporting economic development initiatives that create equitable opportunities for communities of color to participate in and benefit from the economic growth of their neighborhoods. Following conversations with local leaders, the Casino Road neighborhood in Everett, WA was identified as an area for engagement and funding.
Without intentional and comprehensive investments in the residents, businesses and built environment, the Casino Road community faces the same displacement pressures experienced by low-income communities across Puget Sound. The neighborhood is largely LatinX, with a high concentration of Everett’s communities of color and low-income households.
A year-long community engagement process resulted in the Casino Road Economic Agenda. Two new light rail stations are planned for the Casino Road neighborhood. The Casino Road Economic Agenda provides a framework for ensuring that existing residents will be empowered to fully participate in emerging economic opportunities, create pathways for wealth, and increase housing choices for members of the community.
The award will be presented at the Snohomish County Council meeting on August 20.
VISION 2050 is the region’s plan for growth. By 2050, the region's population will reach 5.8 million people. The region’s cities, counties, Tribes, ports, agencies, businesses, and communities have worked together to develop VISION 2050 to prepare for this growth and serve as a guide for sustaining a healthy environment, thriving communities and a strong economy.
