PSRC’s Executive Board designated Greater Downtown Kirkland and certified the city’s subarea plans in July.
The center is currently home to more than 6,000 people and has over 11,000 employees. The City of Kirkland envisions that this center will continue to grow as a vibrant, walkable regional destination with dense mixed use and transit-oriented development in neighborhoods that offer a variety of housing and employment opportunities, shopping and services, culture, arts, entertainment, and parks.
The 564-acre center is comprised of the Moss Bay neighborhood, encompassing the historic center of Kirkland, and the NE 85th Street Station Area, the area surrounding a future Sound Transit Stride bus rapid transit station.
Planning for the center seeks to leverage regional transit investments to connect to the historic downtown area and continue to develop as a well-connected, mixed-use area.
The region now has 30 regional growth centers and 10 regional manufacturing/industrial centers.
