1 Line Extension Begins Service

Snohomish County commuters have a new mode of transit! The 1 Line Extension opened on Friday, August 30 with a ceremony and a night market for residents and transit-lovers alike.

The four-stop extension covers 8.5 miles between King County and Snohomish County and will serve transit riders every 10 minutes. The new stations are Shoreline South/148th Station, Shoreline North/185th Station, Mountlake Terrace Station and Lynnwood City Center.

The project was approved in 2008 and broke ground in 2019.

“The arrival of the light rail marks the start of a transformative regional transit system that will change how we get around and that will provide widespread opportunities for our residents… Light rail is also helping our environment and ensuring that our economy remains strong for generations to come,” said Snohomish County Executive and Vice President of PSRC, Dave Somers.

Thousands flocked to the station Friday morning to listen to elected officials and community members excited about the Lynnwood Link opening and excited to ride the 1 Line Extension for the first time. The Night Market began at 4 p.m. and provided food, music, giveaways and performances.

PSRC was at the Lynnwood City Center Station and talked to community members about how our policies can address the rise in roadway deaths and serious injuries through a Regional Safety Action Plan. PSRC is holding meetings in King, Kitsap, Pierce and Snohomish County for residents to discuss the Regional Safety Action Plan. Register to attend.

For all the transit-lovers who are not able to ride the extension, The Seattle Times published a video that details the route to the 1-line extension to Lynnwood.
